February in Portland means heat wave parties. Donning your bikini, flip-flops and sunglasses in the middle of winter is only an activity those absolutely starved for Vitamin D will do.
Last night I attended one such party. My wonderful friend Neal turned the heat up to 85 degrees, queued up various surf themed LPs, and mixed pina coladas. February in Portland was never so tropical.
Pictured are The Sunbathers. I proclaim to be an avid sun-worshipper and have spent many a hot summer's day cooking myself to a nice golden crisp. I drew this picture in honor of us leather-chesters. Seeking to capture that perfect sense of gluttonous behavior, note the slight snarl on their beautiful faces. Thus I present
Hedonism and Vanity: the sunbathers.

As a fellow Portlander I SO get this! :-)
what a fun-sounding party! why wait for spring when you can just make it at home? love your illustrations too...the colours are great!
I love your atwork, 'The Sunbathers' certainly captures that sence of vainity and enjoyment of sunbathing.
I'm loving your esty shop too, if only I actually had money at the moment!

I have never heard of such a party. How very cool! I'm not a fan of warm, sunny weather, though (I know, it seems so contrary).
I love it! When I was younger, I was a sun-aholic....and even though now I'm older and have to take care and beware the wrinkle monster, I still love to bath in the sunlight!
OH sun.... how I do wish you would peek through the seattle rain clouds! :)
These are great! You have such charm!
I love the snarls on their faces! I normally do not love the heat, but I could really go for some sunshine right now.
My husband and I love Portland. I painted a couple of sceneries there last year and fell in love with the city.
Beautiful artworks and writing. One can tell your wit as an artist with your stunning works.
I wish you all the best and perhaps we can meet next time we're there again.
Ha! Love it! And I will tellya, I am super jealous of your heat wave party! Talk about starved for sunlight-oi! As a native San Diegan, this winter stuff should be over by now. I should be having 70 degree weather. Instead, I get snow flurries and gray skies. So dreary!!
February in Portland HAS to better than February in Michigan! :)
